Gene Roddenberry's birthday. Sometimes known as The Great Bird of the Galaxy, Gene Roddenberry is the creator of Star Trek. He died October 24, 1991.

1973

First convention officially named San Diego Comic-Con. The convention that was to become Comic-Con started in 1970 and was called the Golden State Comic-Minicon, but in 1973 the convention officially changed its name to the San Diego Comic-Con and expanded to 5 days.
And please, PLEASE check out the pictures from that 1973 convention. They are eerily familiar. Most of the elements from today's convention have their seeds back then.

Star Wars: The Clone Wars
Wide theatrical release of Star Wars: The Clone Wars. Released to theaters, this was an introduction to the animated TV series that premiered later in that year. The plot placed this animated film between Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones and Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith live action Star Wars films.
